- It is a server version of Windows 7.
- It supports .NET 3.0 & above. This also means it can support WCF (Windows Communication Foundation) which is a improvement provided by .NET foundation for Client/Server programming.
- Earlier .NET 2.0 remoting was widely in use for Client/Server which has now become legacy technology and hence not recommended.
- Preferred for distributed application is WCF.

- Mainstream support ended on 13 January 2015.
- Extended support ends on 14 January 2020.
